Western Agriculture Labour Initiative
About | WALI Steering Committee
WALI was initiated with seed funding from the BC Ministry of Agriculture and 11 horticulture commodity associations. These groups recognize the benefit of having WALI as the central foreign worker organization in BC, acting on behalf of BC farmers.
WALI is the only recognized organization in British Columbia assisting BC farmers in contracting foreign seasonal workers to address their employment needs.
WALI has the support of the government of Canada, Province of BC, BC Agriculture Council and participating international consulates.
"Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) is very pleased to support the establishment of the Western Agriculture Labour Initiative (WALI) to assist employers using the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) in British Columbia. HRSDC and Service Canada (SC) have had a strong working relationship with similar industry organizations as part of the SAWP in other regions of the country, and it has proven to be a beneficial service to employers participating in the program."
“The B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Lands and the Province of B.C. recognize the central role played by WALI in managing Temporary Foreign Worker Programs (TFWP) for the B.C. agriculture industry. WALI is a valued partner, and is recognized by the Province as the agriculture industry representative in matters relating to TFWP. WALI ensures that the voice of B.C. agriculture employers is heard by all levels of government and plays a key role in ensuring the continued success of the TFWP for the industry.”
